Guardian Home Program

This Program is for Local Families

Wood Lake Doodles knows that every dog deserves to have a loving, forever home. All of the dogs in our breeding program are part of our family and live in homes rather than kennels so that we know they are getting as much attention as possible. Because family life full of love is of so important, our Guardian Homes will become an important part of our program as we grow. This program will benefit the dog, the breeder and the fur-ever family.  Guardian Home families are always part of OUR family.

Joining our Guardian Home Program allows for local families to have a breeder's “Pick of the Litter” puppy as a family pet and at a "discounted" puppy price. There are also instances where we will purchase a dog to add to our program for another breeder to be placed in a Guardian Home as well.  All Guardian Home dogs are chosen by the breeder, and then approved to live with you as your family dog while we retain breeding rights for the dog. All of the fees related to breeding are the responsibility of the breeder. Routine vet care, vaccines, grooming, feeding, training and socializing are the responsibility of the Guardian Family. At the end of the breeding career of the dog, ownership of the dog is then permanently transferred to the guardian family. Wood Lake Doodles retains ALL breeding rights. When your the has fulfilled their career with us, he/she will be neutered/spayed at your expense with no further obligations to us.

For Moms in the Guardian Home Program

We ask for 3 litters with an optional 4th with your consent and advice from our vet and compensation to the Guardian Home Family. After the 3rd litter, we would give you the option for a 4th litter and $250 back. You must be able to drop her off for 1-2 weeks while she is to be bred. Then drop her back off 1 week prior to her due date. She will stay with the puppies until they are weaned. With all litters you would be welcome to come visit our home at any time during her 8 week stay.

For Dads in the Guardian Home Program

We ask the male be available for breedings for up to 6 years of age or as advised by the vet. You must be willing to drop him off for 3-5 days for breeding purposes.

Additional Information and Requirements

To ensure the safety, health and well being of Guardian Home dogs there are certain requirements to meet for our Guardian Home Program.  Becoming a Guardian Home is not for everyone and we understand that. This arrangement HAS to be a "working relationship".  For these reasons we are selective who we choose for this program.

To qualify you need to meet all of the following:

  1. Have previously owned a dog. Experience raising a puppy would be a plus.
  2. You must own your home.
  3. Have a fully fenced yard.
  4. You need to be willing let the breeder visit your home.
  5. Be willing to socialize puppies. This is very important in development of their personality and temperament.
  6. Be willing to sign up with Baxter & Bella lifetime membership and work with the Guardian dog to teach  basic commands such as sit, stay, lay-down, and leave it. You will qualify for a discounted rate, they are one of our trusted partners.
  7. Guardian dog must be an indoor pet and never left unattended outside.
  8. Agree to feed high quality food approved by the breeder.
  9. All other dogs in your family of the opposite gender MUST be spayed/nuetered.
  10. You are required to contact the breeder right away in the event of a serious illness or accident.
  11. Provide a copy of all vet visit summaries to the breeder.
  12. Provide veterinary care when needed and be willing to follow vet recommendations regarding vaccines, flea and tick care and any medications necessary.
  13. Guardian Home dogs are NOT to mate with any dogs outside of Wood Lake Doodles home.
  14. Attend open house events for potential buyers to meet the Guardian Home dog.
  15. Be able to regularly communicate with the breeder, with regard to scheduling testing, mating, whelping, and anything else breeding related.
  16. Guardian Home dogs need to be professionally groomed at least every 8-10 weeks. Brushing will need to be done as needed.
  17. You will provide monthly updates and photos as the puppy grows so we can update our website and social media.
  18. Live within a 1 hour drive of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, or willing to drive the distance whenever called upon for breeding needs.

Our needs will be changing as we are growing.  If interested, please inquire even if we do not have any Guardian Home opportunities listed!  In the comments section, please state that you are interested in learning more about our guardian home program.
